A table rushlight holder in wrought iron on tripod base, with a plain rolled candle socket. Manufactured by Isaac-y-Gof, Pompren Geifr, Tal-y-bont, Cardiganshire, about 1850-1880. Isaac Jones (1830-1896) was known as 'Isaac-y-Gof'. He was an apprentice or journeyman in Aberystwyth, Cardiganshire, from 1852/3, and was working in Tal-y-bont about 1860-1880.
It would have taken a blacksmith approximately 1¼ hours to make. Those destined for a wooden base would take half that time. Twistwork and other decorations would take longer, as would any carving or turning of the wooden base.
